Congébec, the largest refrigerated storage company in Quebec, continues
its development and doubles its storage capacity in Boucherville!
Boucherville, April 26, 2006 — Congébec Inc., the largest refrigerated
storage company in Quebec, proudly holds the groundbreaking ceremony
celebrating the expansion of its Boucherville warehouse in the presence
of Mrs. Francine Gadbois, Mayor of Boucherville, and Mr. Renaud
Lapierre, CEO.
If the current
warehouse, with a storage capacity of three million cubic feet,
inaugurated in May of 2003, is not meeting the demand, it is because the
frozen food market is continuing its strong development and the
partnership that Congébec has succeeded in establishing with its clients
is more than solid. This expansion will require an investment that will
vary between seven and ten million dollars. In addition, Congébec will
need to fill fifteen or so full-time positions. With that in mind, the
company will begin taking applications in the very near future.
With this in mind,
Mrs. Francine Gadbois is particularly proud to acknowledge the bubbling
over of economic development that has characterized Boucherville for the
past several decades. “The citizens of Boucherville are proud of the
success of the companies in our city. These companies greatly
contribute to our citizens’ quality of life. That is why I have put all
of my determination into serving the City of Boucherville to conserve
the taxation revenue from our industries in our City,” concluded Mrs.
Gadbois.
Recognized
in the industry for the quality and speed of its service, the Congébec
warehouse in Boucherville is equipped with sophisticated equipment that
responds to the high demands of companies in the food-processing sector.
“In
addition to being very strategically located, the Boucherville warehouse
meets the growing demand for storage of refrigerated or frozen food
products. We had given ourselves the mandate of optimizing our services
even more by integrating the latest and most high-performance equipment
and management tools. The demand for our infrastructures keeps
growing. The results are proving, beyond all doubt, that we have
invested in a strategic way,” CEO of Congébec Mr. Renaud Lapierre
pointed out. Located in a rapidly developing industrial park, at the
heart of Montreal’s South Shore food-processing industry, this warehouse
that houses more than 12,500 pallet positions will be more than doubled
by the expansion.
This
warehouse is equipped with a large capacity for blast freezing and
offers high-speed trichine treatments, required for the exportation of
pork. These treatments, which normally require one to two weeks, can be
done in less than two days at this warehouse, which represents a very
significant gain for clients. This warehouse also has a section
dedicated to fresh products.
Regarding logistics,
the Boucherville warehouse uses a computerized merchandise management
system based on reading bar codes by radio frequency. Designed by
Ceritar, with the collaboration of information technology specialists
from Congébec, the system ensures the traceability in real time of each
client’s merchandise and gives them access to it on the Internet.
Clients can also
make EDI transactions right from their offices. The EDI (Electronic
Data Interchange) system ensures compatibility and communication between
all client computer systems and Congébec’s system. So, orders can be
sent by the client directly to Congébec’s warehouse management system.
In this way, this procedure eliminates the middleman and as a result,
the risk of error, in addition to confirming the shipping and receiving
of products.
The Congébec
warehouse in Boucherville has held the HACCP (Hazard Analysis of
Critical Control Points) accreditation since its inauguration in April
of 2003. This standard inarguably constitutes the highest standard in
the food industry. Congébec’s commitment with regards to quality has
always been demonstrated by its respect for the highest of standards
from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the requirements of the
European Economic Community.
Founded 30 years ago
by Mr. Laurier Pedneault, shareholders also include SGF-SOQUIA,
Desjardins Venture Capital, Mr. Renaud Lapierre, and most recently, a
cooperative made up of Congébec employees, thereby confirming the great
care for the quality of service on the part of the entire Congébec team.
Today, Congébec has
six modern warehouses in Montreal, Boucherville, Sainte-Julie, and
Quebec City. In addition to storage services, it offers a complete line
of logistics services to companies in the food industry that require
refrigerated product handling, including outsourcing management, order
preparation, and with the help of its subsidiary Congébec (Transport)
Inc., specialized transport service for fresh and frozen products.
